Forex license acquisition, from plan to approval.
A forex license is permission from a regulator to carry on a defined activity. Acquiring one is largely a preparation exercise: a coherent plan, credible people, sound policies and patience with the regulator’s questions.

Know what you are applying for
Licence categories differ by place and by activity, such as dealing, advising or managing. Match the category to your business model, including whether you will take a principal or an agency role. An application for the wrong category wastes months.
Prepare the file
Typical materials include a business plan, financial projections, organisation chart, fit-and-proper information on owners and managers, and written policies for compliance, anti-money-laundering, risk and complaints. Regulators look for consistency between the documents and the people behind them.

Respond to questions well
Expect requests for clarification. Answer fully and on time, and keep one point of contact. Approval may carry conditions such as capital, audits or reporting that continue after launch. Plan for renewal too, covered in licence renewal.
After approval
Approval often carries conditions: capital, reporting, audits or limits on activities. Read them closely, assign owners and track them to completion. Launch communications should reflect exactly what you are authorised to do, and nothing more.
Questions we hear
How long does a forex license take?
It varies widely by regulator and file quality. Ask the regulator or your adviser for current expectations, and avoid plans that depend on a single date.
Can the licence be refused?
Yes. Regulators may refuse or request changes. A prepared, honest application reduces that risk but cannot remove it.
